Where We Came From
Signs Plus was founded in 1992 by Jim and Jamie Sutterfield. We began as a small commercial shop creating banners, promotional signs and vehicle lettering. The business began to grow rapidly, as did the need for business experience and operating capital. Jim and Jamie became partners with Jim’s parents, John and Betty Vargas in 1994. In 1998 Signs Plus purchased an electrical manufacturing and installation company which opened the doors to a much larger market. In 1999 Paul Lachapelle was hired to the Signs Plus team. Paul’s extensive sign fabrication and installation experience in the electric sign industry gave Signs Plus a huge advantage in the custom electric sign industry, and is today still one of our key management team members serving as our Director of Operations.
In 2005, John and Betty Vargas retired from the business, and Bellingham native Dale Gravning returned home to Bellingham after a successful career as a pilot to take the helm of Signs Plus Inc. as CEO. Under Dale’s management, Signs Plus has made great strides to become a more efficient operation and have heavily invested in new aerial trucks, automated equipment and management software.
Today Signs Plus continues to be very much a family operation. Dale’s sister, Kim Jeppson is one of our key team members serving as General Manager. Kim’s daughter, Kelly Pfannenstiel is our Office Manager and Jim’s daughter, Sydney Sutterfield joined the team in 2015 as a Project Manager. Signs Plus is owned by partners Dale Gravning and Jim Sutterfield.
